How Oklahoma Parent-Taught Drivers Ed Works

  1. Sign Up Online for Our Parent Taught Program if your teen is at least 15 years old.
  2. Get the Parent Taught Driver Education booklet from the OK DPS website. Fill out the Parent-Taught Driver Education Affidavit found in the Parent Taught Driver Education booklet and return it to the OK DPS.
  3. When your teen is age 15 and 6 months, is enrolled in a Parent Taught program and has received the DPS accepted copy of your Parent-Taught Driver Education Affidavit, can now apply for a permit.
  4. With permit in hand, you and your teen will complete the any of the remaining online education and begin the behind-the-wheel portion of the program.
  5. After six months of practice with the learners permit and successful completion of the Parent-Taught course final exam, your teen can go to the Oklahoma Driver License Examiner and take the behind-the-wheel drive test to earn a driver's license.
