How New York State DMV Approved Online Defensive Driving Course Works

Step 2 – Take the Course at Your Pace
The course is broken up into short sections with easy-to-pass quizzes. And the best part, there's no final exam!
As required by the state of New York, the Point and Insurance Reduction Program must be a minimum of 320 minutes long. You will have 30 days to complete the course, so you can finish it all at once or spread it out over multiple days.
Step 3 – Course Completion Confirmation
After successful completion of the online defensive driving course you will receive your original certificate of completion in the mail. Turn your certificate into your insurance provider to start earning a 10% reduction on the base rates of your current car liability, no-fault & collision premiums.
In addition, successful completion of the course will be reported electronically to the New York DMV. A 4-point reduction will be applied toward active driver violation points received in the past eighteen months before course completion and will not be counted by NYS DMV against the license.
One completion of the course can be used for both Point Reduction and Insurance Discount.
Step 4 – Enjoy Reduced Rates & Clean Driving Record
Your mandatory 10% auto insurance premiums savings is good for 3 years. You can renew your auto insurance discount every 36 months by retaking the course. It's that easy!
